What can a chair, some shade and a handful of questions tell us about climate justice?
At CEIP Ignacio Zuloaga in Bellas Vistas, Madrid, the first stop of the Climate Shelter Kit began with everyday questions: Where do we look for shade? What do we miss when it gets hot? What should we protect in our neighbourhood? What should everyone have a right to?
The answers were concrete: trees, shaded benches, drinking water, places to spend time without having to consume — and something less easy to map: people and neighbourhood relationships.
Developed by Espacio Bellas Vistas within the JUST4CARE Madrid pilot, the Kit is an experiment in taking climate conversations to the places where everyday life already happens.
These first contributions are also opening a larger question for JUST4CARE: how can local knowledge and everyday needs help shape a wider conversation about urban rights for just climate resilience?
