The Universal Declaration of Urban Rights will be part of the catalogue and exhibition of the third biennial
2012
The project Universal Declaration of Urban Rights has been selected for the arquia/próxima 2012 catalogue and exhibition, as part of the third biennial of the cultural programme promoted by the Fundación Caja de Arquitectos.
arquia/próxima is conceived as a programme to support Spanish architects during their first ten years of professional practice, by disseminating, promoting and giving visibility to their work, their ways of operating and their principles as professionals.
In this third edition, corresponding to the 2010-2011 biennial, 1,445 works and 991 architects have been registered. From this archive, the curatorial teams and the jury select a series of projects that help read the state of a generation and the questions shaping contemporary architectural practice.
The selection of the Universal Declaration of Urban Rights places the project within a broader conversation on the role of architecture in the collective construction of the city. Urban Rights proposes understanding urban rights not only as a legal or institutional framework, but also as a cultural, political and spatial tool to recognise how the city is inhabited, claimed and transformed by citizens.
The jury for this edition is composed of Francisco Cabrera, Ariadna Cantís, Ricardo Devesa, José María Ezquiaga, Eva Franch, José Morales, Carlos Quintáns, Rogelio Ruiz and Martha Thorne.
The winner of this edition is Collective Intelligence 2.0, by Zoohaus, a collective of collectives including, among others, Zuloark, Pez Estudio and León 11.
